Michelle Ciccarelli Lerach is a lawyer, entrepreneur, self-proclaimed “Agvocate” for sustainable food and farming, and a member of Les Dames d’Escoffier. She founded San Diego’s Berry Good Night in 2009 to galvanize the local sustainable food community. She was instrumental in her state’s failed attempt to require the labeling of GMO foods, raising funds and awareness, and moderating and debating representatives of the GMO food manufacturers at local universities.
She opened Cups, the first Three Star Green Certified® Dine Green bakery in California in 2008, based on principles of providing locally sourced, organic, healthier sweets – namely for those with specialty diets, like gluten free, vegan, and low glycemic.
She is handing over the reins of Cups to long-time employee and manager Nina Park-Shin Han this month, and Cups will be reopening under new ownership and in a new La Jolla location in March 2014, though Michelle will continue with recipe development, product placement and franchising.
